I wont do this again..

March 7, 2017

Dennis* 27 has been at sea, on this particular fishing vessel, for the last four years. That is; four years without seeing his family and four years of hard physical labour on board a fishing vessel with twenty something other young men. Initially Dennis had signed a one year contract. He along with the rest of crew were told that they would get part of their salary and the rest would be collected as a ‘’savings” and would be given to them at the end of the year. However once their contract was signed, Dennis and his crew was told that only after four years would they receive their savings, which they are told is a bonus, thus the reason Dennis will be four years this current fishing vessel this coming October.

Dennis says he isn’t afraid of the ocean or the rough seas, as he feels after his four years that he has become somewhat of an experienced fisherman, however what he cannot deal with, is the emotional suffering of being away from his family. Dennis smiles at the prospect of being united with his family in October with the hopes that he can bring home his ‘’bonus’’
